Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako arrived in Okinawa on Saturday to attend art and cultural events this weekend, marking their first visit to the island prefecture since his enthronement in 2019.

The emperor, who has not been to Okinawa in 12 years, is scheduled to give a speech at the opening ceremony of the festivals in Ginowan on Sunday during his two-day visit with the empress, who has not visited in 25 years.
